Ely
2006-10-21
A short train-trip braught us to Ely Cathedral, Ely. It’s very beautiful, especially on the inside. Apparently it started out as a small monistery run by one women, and it grew to this big cathedral. I’d say if you’re ever in Cambridge this is defenitely a place worth seeing. The only downside is that it’s not exatly in the centre of Cambridge like so many things are, so it’ll take up about half of your afternoon… Something i wish we’d done is look arounf in Ely a little. It might have been nice to see. (Our tour-guide took us right back to the trainstation though)

Punting along the backs!
2006-10-21
Punting was a lot of fun. You can see many students giving tours to tourists, but we also went by ourselves. We went under the mechanical bridge and toured along the backs of the colleges. The pole got stuck in the mud here and there, but the paddle allowed us to go back and get it. (not to mention nice students who were willing to help us out ^.~ ) One things though: if you’re doing the punting, roll up your sleeves cuz they’ll probably get a little wet. =P

Cambridge Colleges
2006-10-21
SO MANY PRETTY COLLEGES!!!
The most obvious ones I remember are Kings College on the Kings parade and Trinity college. The oldest one: Peterhouse is really nice too, unfortunately you can’t see much of that one from off the street. You’d have to in to the courtyard.
Just walking arounf the town will bring you to all sorts of pretty historical buildings. and if you go punting, you can see the backs of many more colleges. I enjoyed that very much!

Apple Orchard
2006-10-21
I remember last time we had gone to drink tea at an Orachard just off the centre of Cambridge. We didn’t this time though… too bad because aside from the mud here and there (it had been raining) it really was a nice place!

Gafton Centre

MORE shopping!
The gafton centre is a mall with all the basic necesities as far as shopping is concerned. =P
There are many more shops there and is highly recomended by the locals.
When I went there we had just come back from Ely cathedral in Ely, so it was around 5 o’clock… thus you can immagine our displeasure in finding out the mall was closing at 5.30
With this in mind we rushed in to get a glimpse, but were practically booted out of the shops again at exactly 5.30 ^_^*
When we came back the next day (thursday) however, it was open till 9o’clock, for our shopping pleasure.
