About Tunisia
Tunisia is the easternmost country situated along the Atlas mountain range. Forty per cent of the country is comprised by the Sahara desert, with much of the remainder consisting of fertile land and easily accessible coastlines.
Tunesia has seen various ancient cultures that intermingled in the past: Berbers, Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Visigoth settlers. Many historical sites remind us of this rich history: Medina of Tunis: home to some 700 monuments dating from the 12th to the 16th centuries; Site of Carthage:once the base of a powerful trading empire spanning much of the Mediterranean; Amphitheatre of El Jem: beautifully preserved colosseum, the largest in North Africa; Punic Town of Kerkuane and its Necropolis: abandoned Phoenician city, probably the only example of its kind to remain; Kairouan: the capital until the 12th century, it long remained the principal holy city; Dougga or Thugga: Roman ruins regarded as "the best preserved small town in North Africa"; Medina of Sousse: part of a trans North Africa coastal defense system, the medina contains many features typical of an early Islamic town.
Tunesia also has a rich wild life with Ichkeul National Park as an important place for migrating wildfowl for its freshwater lake and the last remaining marshlands that once crossed North Africa.

Camelride in the sahara
We had a stay in Tunisia with lots of adventures things. One of the most exciting was the trip to Douz not knowing wat to do or were to stay. After a long drive, sightseeing El Djem and Matmatta, we arrived in Douz around three o'clock in the afternoon. We went to a tourist office and asked for a place to stay overnight. The people there were very friendly and recommended us a stay in the Sahara dessert. So we decide to take a camel ride of 2 hours to the camp. A man drove us to the place where the ride started. We could leave are stuff in a room with a key and used the shower and the swimming pool, and started our ride at 5 PM with only water and some basics in our plastic bag for the night. After the ride we arrived in a camp where local people prepared a simple meal for us. After dinner the party that consisted of the guide and 4 people, left for a place in the isolated spot in the Sahara. The heavens and stars were everything different from what we used to, so bright, so beautiful. We loved sleeping in open tents on field beds, with temperatures dropping. you would think it would be quiet, but it was amazing how much sound there was carried in the deep night. The next day we had breakfast at 5 and took off at 6, so we'd be back for it would become to hot to bear. We could use our room for another three hours, so we did take a shower and pluched in the swimmingpool. It was a great adventure and i can reccoment it to everybody.Posted on 24-12-2006 by Anne
