About Angola
The Republic of Angola has a surface of 1,246,700 sq km that is divided into an arid coastal strip stretching from Namibia to Luanda; a wet, interior highland; a dry savanna in the interior south and southeast; and rain forests in the north and in Cabinda. The Zambezi River and several tributaries of the Congo River have their sources in Angola.
The approach to the great central plateau of Africa is marked by a series of irregular terraces. The central plateau has an altitude ranging from 1,200 to 1,800 m and consists of ancient crystalline rocks with granites overlain by sandstones.
Angola has considerable natural resources, among which oil and diamonds are the most relevant. Although Angola is one of Africa's major oil producers it also is one of the world's poorest countries.
