About Burundi
The Republic of Burundi is a small nation in the Great Lakes region of Africa and much of its western border is adjacent to Lake Tanganyika. The total area of Burundi amounts 27.830 sq km of which 7.8% is water.
The high plateau has considerable altitude variation: 772 m to 2,670 m above sea level. The highest peak Mount Karonie lies to the southeast of the capital, Bujumbura and is 2,685 m high.
The land has suffered a lot of deforastation, soil erosion and habitat loss. Burundi today has two national parks, Kibira National Park to the northwest and Rurubu National Park to the north east.
