Libya is a barren land with flat plains and plateaus. More than 90% of the country is desert or semidesert with in the southern depressions many oases and wells. South of Cyrenaica are the Tibesti Mountains, a group of extinct volcanoes which are the largest and highest mountain range in the Sahara.
Libya has a long history of invasions by Romas, Vandals, Byzantines, Arabs, Turks and last the Italians, leaving behind a trail of marvellous monuments dating back to Roman and Greek times.
