The indigenous people of Western Sahara are the Sahrawis, a nomadic or Bedouin people who speak the Ḥassānīya dialect of Arabic.
Western Shara is subject to a long dispute between Morocco and the Algerian-backed Polisario Front. A UN-monitored cease-fire was implemented in 1991. A final status has been repeatedly been postponed. The presence of mines throughout the territory makes it a dangerous environment to travel.
