About South Georgia

South Georgia or Pepys Island is largely barren and has steep, glacier-covered mountains with 11 peaks over 2,000 m high, their slopes furrowed with deep gorges filled with glaciers.

Grytviken is a popular stop for cruise ships visiting Antarctica. There is a small museum in part of the former whaling station. The station's church is the only building which retains its original purpose, and is still used occasionally for services.

Wildlife of South Georgia is predominantly marine wildlive with Krill, Penguins, Seals, Sea Lions, Fur Seal and Whales.
