About Bhutan
Bhutan or land of the thunder dragon as it is also called, is an isolated country in the Himalaya's between two mighty neighours: China and India. It has breathtaking and very diverse landscapes ranging from subtropical plains to glaciated Himalayan mountains in excess of 7,000 meters, making it a natural tourist destination. Some of the ''cliff hanging'' monestries are a direct reminder of Shangry La. Bhutan remains one of the most secluded nations in the world, and foreigners are not permitted to travel to many of its areas to minimise the effects of tourism on the local culture. Backpackers and independent travellers are discouraged.
