About Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan is a central Asian country of incredible natural beauty, with scenic mountain landscapes, valleys and basins. Issyk Kul in the mountainous region of Tian Shan, is the largest lake in Kyrgyzstan and the second largest mountain lake in the world. It is a major attraction with great fishing and hiking possibilities. The highest peaks are in the Kakshaal-Too range on the Chinese border, with Pik Pobedy (Victory Peak) at 7439m as the highest point. Around 75% of the country is under cover of snow and this results in flooding during the spring thaw. The principal river is the Naryn River that flows through the Fergana Valley into Uzbekistan.
Bishkek is its capital and largest city of Kyrgyzstan, with approximately 900,000 inhabitants. Just south of Bishkek lies the Ala Archa Gorge, a mountain gorge with great hiking and trekking possibilities.

Good to know
Kyrgyz are the largest ethnic group. Kyrgyz have a Turkic culture with Mongolian/Chinese influences. Historically Kyrgyz have been proud nomadic herders, tending sheep, horses and yaks. This nomadic heritage continues till this day. Other ethnic groups include Russians and Uzbeks. People in Kyrgyzstan are very friendly and helpfull.
