Nepal: the country where Buddha reputedly was born. Nepal is the only official Hindu state in the world. Nepalese culture has been largely shaped by Indian culture to the south and Tibetan to the north. Today Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, a situation made worse by the on-going Maoist rebellion.
