About Pakistan
Pakistan is home to some of the highest Himalayan mountains like the famous K2 at 8611 m, a true challenge to any alpinist. The famous Karakoram Highway that runs over the Khunjerab pass to Islamabad via Gilgit, Hunza valley and Passu to Kashgar in China offers spectacular views of this beatutifull region in northern Pakistan. In the southeast the flat Cholistan or Thar Desert forms the border with India.
Pakistan is also the home of the world's most ancient civilisations and some of the earliest human settlements. Ruins of Moen-jo-Daro and many monuments in places like Kot Diji, Thatta, Bhambore, Gandhara, Dir go back to the dawn of civilization.
Most interesting city of all is the capital Islamabad with spectacular mountain scenary and trekking possibilities around Islamabad in the Margalla Hills. Also cities like Karachi, the city of lights and Lahore, known for its beautiful Jasmine gardens are worth while a visit.
