About Philippines

The Philippines are an archipelago of 7,107 islands, located in the South China Sea, Philippine Sea, Sulu Sea, Celebes Sea, and Luzon Strait. The islands have a volcanic origin and show some spectacular landscapes with tropical rainforest covered mountains, lakes and volcanos. Many volcanoes are active such as the Mayon Volcano, Mount Pinatubo and Taal Volcano. The highest point is Mount Apo at 2,954 m.
The coastal planes have excellent white sandy beaches, ideal for sunbathing and swimming, and some spectacular spots for scuba diving in coral gardens with beautifull marine life.

Manila is the capital, hub and industrial metropolisof the Philippines, filled with traffic and people. Founded in 1571 by the Spanish, it also has some remarkable colonial sites like the Intramuros, a medieval Spanish walled enclave with surprisng historic buildings.
