About Tajikistan

Tajikstan is a rugged, mountainous country, with lush valleys to the south and north, that now faces the challenge of strengthening peace and reviving its ruined economy. The country has a spectacular scenery with some excellent hiking opportunities, however travel is rough.

More than fifty percent of the country is above 3,000 meters. The northern border is formed by the Trans-Alay Range with the Lenin Peak at 7174 m. The highest peak is Qullai Ismoili Somoni at  7495 m, between Quallai Revolutsiya (6974 m), Peak Korzhenievski (7105 m) and Qatorkuhi Akademiyai Fanho (6785 m). The southern border of the country is formed by the Karakoram Range with Concord Peak (5 469 m), Qullai Karl Marks (6726 m) and Qullai Mayakovskiy (6096 m) along the border to Afghanistan.
