About Sarajevo

Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. While the city suffered greatly during the Balkan conflicts of the 1990s, it is slowly coming back. The river Miljacka runs through the city that is located at 500 meters above sea level, and that is surrounded by five major mountains (the Bjelašnica at 2067 m,  Igman-1502 m, Jahorina-1913 m, Trebević-1627 m  and the Treskavica- 2088 m). They are part of the Dinaric Alps mountain range that are a popular tourist destination for hiking and skiing.

  • The mountain River Rakitnica-deeply cut between Bjelašnica and the mountain Visočica, flowing through bizarre canyons with beautiful waterfalls and calm basins, rich with brown trout, and soft-lipped trout.
  • The Municipality of Hadžici (20 km from Sarajevo) with winter sport facilities like skiing, fishing and wonderful nature
  • Jahorina mountain with 175 days of snow (October till end of May)
