About Georgia

Georgia is dominated by its great mountain scenery, with the Great Caucasus Mountains in the north and the Lesser Caucasus Mountains in the south. The main Caucasus Range is much higher in elevation than the Lesser Caucasus Mountains, with the highest peaks rising more than 5,000 meters. The region between Kazbegi and Shkhara has numerous glaciers. Prominent destinations in the Lesser Caucasus are the Javakheti Volcanic Plateau, the Tabatskuri and Paravani lakes, as well as various hot water springs.

Georgia also has a beautiful coastline and until the civil unrest in Abkhazia, Sukhumi was known as a famous beach resort fringed with palms and eucalyptus trees. Towns like Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, have many impressive churches, cathedrals, monastries and others monuments dating back to the earliest times of Christendom.
