About Hungary
Hungary consists mostly of rolling plains in the Carpathian Basin and is divided by its main river, the Danube (Duna). With its historical riverside villages, fortresses, castles and extreme scenic hills and valleys, the Danube offers all the ingredients for an unforgettable boatcruise. In the western half of Hungary lies its famous resort lined Lake Balaton, which is the largest fresh water lake in Europe that attracts many tourists each year. Hungary is also home to the largest thermal lake in the world, Lake Heviz with its thermal spas.
Visitors must see Budapest, Hungary's capital situated on the Danube, a city of culture and of astounding beauty and grace. Budapest is the amalgamation of right-bank Buda and the left bank Pest, with Buda as the older and more charming part with picturesque houses, its historic Castle Hill with the Royal Palace, museums, galleries, St Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion. Pest on the other hand is the commercial centre of the city, with shopping areas and many boulevards such as Andrássy Boulevard.
