The capital of Latvia is Riga, the biggest city in the Baltic states that celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2001. Riga famous for its extensive Jugendstil architecture, lies on the shallow Gulf of Riga and has a beautifull historic centre which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
