About Iran

Iran's landscape is dominated by rugged mountain ranges with a central basin with deserts and some salt lakes and small plains along the coast of the Caspian Sea and in the northern end of the Persian Gulf. The populous western part is the most mountainous, with ranges such as the Zagros and Alborz Mountains, with Damavand at 5,671 m as the highest point.

Tehran is the capital of Iran with 14 million people, situated at the foot of the towering Alborz range. Tehran is an enormous city with an immense network of highways and dotted with mosques, churches, synagogues, places and museums. The famous Peacock Throne of the Persian Shahs can be found in Tehran's Golestan Palace, the oldest of the historic monuments inTehran.
