Lebanon consists of narrow coastal plains, with the Bekaa Valley separating Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon Mountains.
Lebanon has been a major crossroads of civilizations for millennia, and today possesses an extraordinarily rich and vibrant culture with a wide array of ethnic and religious groups.
One of the most interesting destinations is Baalbek a town in the Bekaa valley. It is famous for its temple ruins of the Roman period, when Baalbek was known as Heliopolis, one of the largest sanctuaries in the Empire.

Lebanon has made progress toward rebuilding the country after the devastating 15-year civil war, that ended in 1991. Syria finally withdrew from Lebanon in April of 2005. Peace for Lebanon however remains fragile.
The population of Lebanon comprises different ethnic groups and religions.
