About Oman

Oman has a dramatic landscape that consists of vast desert plains in central Oman, and mountain ranges along the north (Jebel Akhdar) and southeast coast, with rugged cliffs rising from the deep blue sea. Mount Jabal Shams is the highest peak at 2,980m and is a favorite tourist destination.

The capital city of Oman, Muscat, is a spread-out city with much open space. Muscat is a mix of old and new with modern coastal towns, the spectacular seaside palace of the sultan between steep rocky hills, and two old Portuguese forts dating back to the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, who landed in Oman on his way to India.
