It consists mostly of empty semi-desert and desert with oases, such as the Rub' al Khali, the Arabian Desert and East Sahero-Arabian xeric shrublandsvast. In most parts of the country, vegetation is limited to weeds, herbs and shrubs. The coastal area of the Red Sea, especially the coral reefs, have a rich marine fauna.
The capital of Saudia Arabia is Riyadh, which has an average temperature in July of 42ºC. Islam's two holiest sites, Mecca and Medina, are located in the country. Mecca with the Ka'bah as the "House of God" with its cornerstone, the Black Stone, is the focal point of the yearly Hajj pilgrimage.
