About India
India is a vast country that stretches from the northern Himalayas, to the fertile Indo-Gangetic plains in north, the Thar desert in the west and the vast Deccan Plateau that encompasses most of central and southern India. It is home to several major rivers such as the Ganges with its famous ritual washing, the Brahmaputra, the Yamuna, the Godavari, and the Krishna. The west coast of India extends from the Gujarat to Goa and has some of finest beaches in the world. The coastal area of the southern India is full of rainforests.
What makes India perhaps one of the most compelling destinations in the world, is its richness of cultural heritage, from the pre-historic Harappan civilization, to the grand tombs, forts, palaces, temples and cities built by different dynasties and the remnants of British India. India is also a melting pot of religions with many public practices and festivals of which the most well known include Hindu festivals of Diwali, Holi and Dussehra. Perhaps the most famous and most popular tourist destination in India is the famous Taj Mahal.
