Saint-Pierre and Miquelon is a French overseas island group at the eastern coast of Canada. First settled by the French in the early 17th century, the islands represent the sole remaining vestige of France's once vast North American possessions. Miquelon has a large lagoon, the Grand Barachois, with a large population of seals and other wildlife.
