About Maryland
Maryland is one of the Mid-Atlantic States in the United States. It is a small state nearly bisected by the Chesapeake Bay and also known as the Washington DC back-yard. The counties east of the bay are known as the Eastern Shore or The Delmarva Peninsula. One of the most noted features of Delmarva is Maryland's Assateague Island on the Atlantic. In the western part of Maryland you will find foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and the Piedmont region. Experience Maryland from Chesapeake Bay Gateways to the historic state capital of Annapolis and the majestic Allegheny Mountains, follow the Civil War Trails with Baltimore as the birthplace of “The Star-Spangled Banner”, and simply enjoy the great outdoors and its legendary seafood.
