Nebraska is a Great Plains state and with its endless landscapes, it occupies the central portion of the Frontier Strip. Once considered part of the Great American Desert "Where the West Begins", Nebraska today has turned into a leading farming state. In the far west the land rises to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and displays spectacular bedrock foundations.

Getting Around

  • If you are in a hurry takes one of the Interstate highways: the I 76,80,129, 180, 480 or the I 680
  • If not take one of the Scenic byways
    • Heritage Highway-this 380 km route takes you along the Missouri River, into the prairies and through early Nebraska settlements
    • Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway—this 130 km route will take you through wooded bluffs overlooking the Missouri River, the lakes of DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge, historic sites such as Fort Atkinson—the first military post west of the Missouri River and large bison herds in Winnebago Reservation. If you can visit one of the many colourful powwows.
    • Outlaw Trail Scenic Byway-this 370 km route from South Sioux City to Valentine takes you through the scenic views of forested bluffs, winding rivers, sand hills, grasslands, wetlands, high prairies, lakes, the 70-foot-high Smith Falls and Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge.
    • Bridges to Buttes Byway- a 315 km route through the solitude of rolling sand hills, open prairie land and pine-studded bluffs and buttes.
    • 385 – Gold Rush Byway-a 252 km route through Nebraska’s Panhandle from South Dakota to Colorado with natural rugged beauty.
    • Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway-a 435 km scenic through dramatic sand hills
