About Oklahoma
Oklahoma in the 1830's was the end of The Trail of Tears and over 16,000 Cherokee Indian people were forced to move here. Today 39 tribes and Indian nations have their headquarters here. Oklahoma's name is taken from two Choctaw words and literally means "red people". Oklahoma has some good opportunities for outdoor activities like fishing and hiking with the high plains in the west and hills and small mountains in the east; the east central region is dominated by the Arkansas River Basin, and the Red River Plains are in the south.
