Oregon in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States borders the Pacific Ocean, California, Washington, Idaho, and Nevada, with its northern border along the Columbia River and the east border along the Snake River. The north-south Willamette Valley is one of the most fertile and agriculturally productive regions in the world, making Oregon is major agricultural state in the USA. Oregon has some of the most diverse landscapes and is well known for its rugged seacoast, the high mountain passes of the Oregon Cascades, magnificent waterfalls and the lava and Ponderosa pines of the high desert.

Getting Around
- The historic Columbia River Highway is a good way to view the magnificent vistas and waterfalls of Oregon
- When you take the scenic byways through remote areas remember that gas stations are few and far between. So "fill'er up" when you have the chance. - Byways
- The Historic Columbia River Highway with its mossy stone walls and graceful viaducts winding past dozens of waterfalls, this All-American Road has a truly scenic grandeur. Winter storms can be hazardous. It begins in Troutdale, a suburb 27 km east of downtown Portland(from Interstate 84, take Exit 17, follow the signs south to the Historic Columbia River Highway) and ends at The Dalles.
- The Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway-this All-American Road extends all the way to Lassen Volcanic National Park in California with a dramatic scenery. It begins at Diamond Lake Junction, climbs to the north entrance of Crater Lake National Park(only open from June through October because of snow conditions) and ascends through a pumice moonscape created by the massive eruption of Mt. Mazama with the deepest lake in the U.S. one of the most beautiful natural sights in the world. You'll pass Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge and Upper Klamath Lake with bald eagles, sandhill cranes and pelicans. Here you can canoe, fish or golf in the shadow of the Southern Oregon Cascades. After passing the Klamath River, you'll travel by the Klamath Wildlife Area and the Bear Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
- The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway-From the depths of Hells Canyon to the3000 m peaks of the Wallowas (the middle of this incredible drive is usually closed by snow from October through May). Starting in Baker City this high-mountain adventure ends in La Grande.
- The Pacific Coast Scenic Byway-drive the entire Pacific Coast Scenic Byway with breathtaking viewpoints, stunning state parks and quaint coastal towns. Winter and spring are the best seasons for whale watching. Starting at Astoria the U. S. Route 101 will take you to Cape Foulweather, Honeyman State Park and finally ending at Port Orford, Brookings and Harbor with some of the most incredible scenery just five miles north of the California border.
