About South Carolina

South Carolina is a state in the Southern region of the United States, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and by the Savannah River in the west. Coastal plains are flat with salt marshes and estuaries, natural ports such as Georgetown and Charleston and the remarkable Carolina bays. Then there is the Piedmont region which lies between the coastal plain and the eastern Appalachian Mountains, and the Upcountry, containing an escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains with Sassafras Mountain as the highest point in South Carolina and Table Rock State Park and Caesar's Head State Park.
