Tennessee is a Southern state of the United States with six geographic regions: the Gulf Coastal Plain, Nashville Basin, Highland, Cumberland Plateau or the Appalachian Plateau, Ridge-and-valley Appalachians and the Blue Ridge Mountains including the Great Smoky Mountains. The state has several well known cities worth while your visit like Nashville (capital), Memphis (largest city and home of the blues), Clarksville, Kingston and Chattanooga and Knoxville near the Great Smoky Mountains.

Highlights
- Great Smoky Mountains National Park with over 965 km of trails, is part of the Appalachian system and known for the smoke like haze that envelops its mountains. The Smokies have more than 25 peaks that rise over 1,829 m like the Clingmans Dome (2,024 m) and the Mt. Guyot (2,018 m), the highest points in Tennessee.
- The Obed Wild and Scenic River in East Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau, with 150 m high bluffs above whitewater streams and excellent outdoor recreation opportunities such as whitewater boating, rock climbing, hiking and fishing.
- Big South Fork with scenic gorges and valleys, offering recreational opportunities like camping, whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, hunting and fishing.
- Chattanooga with the Chattanooga Choo Choo and Lookout Mountain Incline Railway with the steepest rail track in the world.
- Bristol Motor Speedway
- Oak Ridge-the place that was long not on the map of the USA where the uranium was made for the Manhattan project during Worldwar II, with the famous American Museum of Science and Energy
- Asheville-a good start for your trip into the Smoky Mountains
- Dollywood theme park nestled in the lush foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge. Dollywood is one of the most popular family vacation destinations with such attractions as the wooden roller coaster The Thunderhead™, live country, bluegrass and gospel music and large festivals
- Ripley’s acquarium of the Smokies
- Nashville-known for its country music with attractions as the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Ryman Auditorium and the yearly the CMA Music Festival
- Graceland in Memphis-the former home of Elvis Presley turned into a museum with Elvis memorabilia. Elvis found a last resting place here and you can pay a visit to his grave.
- See Beale Street in Memphis-officially declared 'Home of the Blues' with famous blues clubs, restaurants and frequent festivals and outdoor concerts.
- While you are in the neighborhood, be sure to visit the Sun Studio, where Blues and R&B artists like Muddy Waters and B.B. King, and Rock-and-roll, country music and rockabilly artists like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded throughout the 1950s.
- If you have the time try the Tennessee section of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, a 3500 km footpath along the Appalachian Mountains
Getting Around
- Try some of the Tennessee scenic byways
- Cherohala Skyway-with hundreds of miles of hiking trails through beautiful forests and sparkling waters such as Bald River Falls and the Tellico River. You can take a boat ride on one of America's largest underground lakes, the Lost Sea.
- Natchez Trace Parkway with beautiful scenery and over 100 species of wildflowers to be found along the Parkway
- Great River Road by the Mississippi river will take you to secluded recreational places, several lakes, 4 Tennessee State Parks, some smaller Tennessee towns, as well as the exciting city of Memphis.
- Ocoee Scenic winds through the Cherokee National Forest, passing Parksville Lake, the top of the Chilhowee Mountains and travelling through the scenic bluffs of the Ocoee River Gorge with whitewater rafting and kayaking
