Virginia is a southern state in the United States with 5 distinct regions: the Tidewater region stretches from the Atlantic coast to the fall line; from the Tidewater Region to the Blue Ridge Mountains lies the Piedmont district; then the Blue Ridge Mountains east of the Appalachian Mountains; followed by the Valley and Ridge with the Appalachian Mountains and Shenandoah Valley Region, and finally the Appalachian Plateau west of the Appalachian Mountains. You can spend time at Virginia’s pristine beaches, hike the Appalachian Trail, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive for some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, or dive into her rich past of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.

Getting Around
- If you are in a hurry take the Interstate Highways: I66, I495, !95, I 495, I64, I564, I85, I81 and I581
- If not try some of the Virginia scenic byways
- Blue Ridge National Parkway- taking you along the crests of the scenic Southern Appalachians. It is 750 km long and if you take the whole trip the byway will take you from Shenandoah National Park in northern Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in southern North Carolina. The journey will offer you a glimpses into a Native American culture, such as the Cherokee in North Carolina and the Oconaluftee Indian Village
- Skyline Drive is an integral element of Shenandoah National Park with the scenic Shenandoah Valley
- Colonial Parkway-a 35 km journey through the English colonial experience in America, starting at Historic Jamestown and Jamestown Settlement, on to Colonial Williamsburg where Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and Patrick Henry inspired people to fight for independence, and ending at Yorktown where the British army was defeated in 1781, securing independence for the United States of America.
- George Washington Memorial Parkway takes you to monuments and memorials of the first President of the United States, wildlife preserves, waterfalls and scenic overlooks.
- Highlands Scenic Byway-a 32 km loop through lush valleys, overlooking the Allegheny Highlands and Blue Ridge Mountains
- Mount Rogers Scenic Byway through the Jefferson National Forest with incredible views. From this byway you can access the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and the Virginia Creeper National Recreational Trail. Mt. Rogers Scenic Byway passes the southwest slopes of Whitetop Mountain where you can see some of the oldest exposed rocks on earth. The byway takes you to Mt. Rogers, the highest point in Virginia at 1746m.
