About Ashmore and Cartier Islands
The Ashmore and Cartier Islands are two groups of uninhabited islands in the Indian Ocean north-west of Australia’s mainland with a rich and diverse marine habitat. Ashmore Reef is a 155 km² area within surrounding reefs, including the lagoons, that consists of the West Islet, Middle Islet and yes the East Islet. Cartier Island is a 44 km² area within the surrounding reefs, including lagoons and the small island.
