About Christmas Island
Christmas Island is a small Australian island in the Indian Ocean 500 km south of Jakarta, Indonesia. Two-thirds of the island has been declared a National Park. Its dense rainforest is a nesting habitat of the endangered Abbott's Booby, while the north-eastern shore terraces provide nesting areas for the endemic Christmas Island Frigate bird. Most famous is the annual red crab mass migration in November when around 100 million crabs head for the sea to spawn.
