Norfolk Island is a 34.6 sq km island in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Australia between New Zealand and New Caledonia. The island is a volcanic formation with a 32 km coastline and an interior that mostly consists of rolling plains. There are two bays, Sydney Bay and Emily Bay, of which Emily Bay is protected from the Pacific Ocean by a small coral reef. Most Islanders are descendants of the Bounty mutineers.
