About Victoria

Victoria is Australia’s second smallest state at the southern end of the Great Dividing Range. It has a beautiful rocky coastal scenery, pristine beaches and national parks that are great for outdoor recreational activities like bushwalking, camping, fishing, rock climbing, mountain biking and cross-country skiing in the winter. It has alpine areas with Mount Bogong as the highest peak at 1986 m. The state actually shares an 85 m land border with Tasmania through Boundary Islet in the Bass Strait.

Getting Around

  • Train: Victoria has a very efficient train system
  • Car:
    • Try the Great Ocean Road between the cities of Geelong and Warrnambool. It offers outstanding views of Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean and rock formations like The Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, the Grotto just outside Port Campbell and the London Arch.
    • The Great Alpine Road is a 308 km route past lofty mountains, valleys, forests and rivers from Wangaratta in the north-east to Bairnsdale in the heart of Gippsland.
    • Sydney to Melbourne coastal drive takes you to national parks, beautiful surf beaches and pristine lakes
    • Follow the Murray river from the mountains of the Great Dividing Range to desert country and the open plains of South Australia
