About Colombia

Colombia is the most diverse destination in South America to travel to, with colourful towns, coastal plains, Andean valleys and Amazonian jungle with some of the world's most beautifull fauna and flora. From the coastal plains on the Atlantic ocean and the Caribbean sea, the archipelago in the Caribbean sea (San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina), the Andes range with the Colombian Massif, the Caribbean plain of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta with its highest points Pico Cristobal Colon and Pico Simon Bolivar (5,775 m), the eastern savanna and rainforest, the northern "Los Llanos" savanna region in the Orinoco basin and the southern Amazon rain forest with brilliant flowers and bird life, Colombia has much to offer. The jungles are also home to excellent archaeological treasures, like the ancient city of La Cuida Perdida and the monumental tombs of San Augustin and Tierrodentro.

Bogota, the capital of Colombia, is a fast growing urban centre with a population of about 8.5 million, and at an altitude of 2,640 m, a chilly city with the Andes mountains in the back ground. Bogota has traditionally been a major center of South American culture and has some of the oldest universities like the Universidad del Rosario founded in 1602, interesing museums like the Museo del Oro or Gold Museum with the largest collection of pre-Columbian gold and the National Museum of Colombia with its large collection of pre-Columbian and Spanish colonial artifacts and Colombian art.

The Spanish colonial port of Cartagena is a popular destination for tourists with its medieval palaces, monasteries and plazas, and seaside holiday resorts with excellent scuba diving opportunities.
