About Netherlands

The Netherlands is a small country on the North Sea and one of the most densely populated and geographically low-lying countries in the world. It is famous for its dikes, canals, windmills, wooden shoes, tulips, cheese, Delftware pottery, bicycles, skating and social tolerance.

The Netherlands capital city, Amsterdam, reminds of its fabulous cultural heritage tracing back to the 1600s, when the Netherlands dominated the world both economically and culturally. The Dutch East India Company established trading links with the East and West Indies bringing back an abundance of merchandise and cultural influences. Famous are the Dutch Masters of the Golden Age- Rembrandt, Frans Hals and Jan Vermeer with their paintings hanging from the walls of the cities’ numerous museums and galleries.

The Netherlands however is far more than just its capital, with impressive cities like Utrecht, Delft, Arnhem, The Hague and Rotterdam. Rotterdam has picked itself up from almost total devastation in World War II to emerge as one of the world’s biggest port.
